Essential shampoo blend

This shampoo recipe is adapted from the book “Essential Oils for Health”, by Kymberly Keniston-Pond. This is a brilliant book, that I highly recommend anyone on their oily journey. I have chosen pure, natural essential oils, renown for their effectiveness with dandruff and scalp care.

The addition of hemp oil is beneficial to your hair in so many ways, including – moisturising properties, stimulates hair growth and helps strengthen hair, to prevent breakage.

I have been struggling with localised psoriasis on my scalp since I was in my early twenties – so, I decided to start making my own shampoo. And, that in itself gives me great satisfaction – knowing every single ingredient that I am putting on, and absorbing into my body. Plus, who doesn’t love concocting up their own beauty products?!

Psoriasis is a condition that is characterised by patches of abnormal skin. These patches are typically red, scaly and very itchy. My condition is exacerbated from sensitivities to shampoo’s + conditioners.

Even natural ones.

Thoroughly blend all of the ingredients below + store in an amber bottle (to protect the essential oils from sunlight), with a pump. I simply recycle old bottles and reuse them.

*to suit a 500ml bottle

1 cup liquid castille soap (with organic olive oil + flaxseed oil)
1 cup filtered water
2 tbsp organic hemp oil
1 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar
10 drops doTERRA eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops doTERRA tea tree essential oil
10 drops doTERRA lavender essential oil
10 drops doTERRA lemon essential oil

The shampoo is not lathery like mainstream ones (and you will use less), but – will still do a fantastic job!

Remember, everyone’s scalp and pH is different – so feel free to adapt the oils mentioned above, but keep to the same quantities (40 drops).

Safely respect your oils.

Feel amaze.
Smell incredible.
Live consciously.

It’s important to remember that everything we apply to our skin, is absorbed quickly by our body. Harsh chemicals are not a requirement for beauty, or for our health for that matter!

Natural products will keep you looking fresh and glowing. Better quality ingredients also mean less product is needed per application.

These are some hand selected products that are currently in my beauty bag. They work to hydrate and regenerate the skin in a natural way, without any of the cumulative side effects of conventional products.

~ Eco tools makeup brushes. 100% cruelty free + vegan. Made with bamboo & environmentally friendly.

~ Bamboo + charcoal toothbrush – environmentally sustainable. The bristles are made from a biodegradable nylon that has been infused with Activated Binchotan Charcoal. Charcoal is known for its natural antibacterial and teeth whitening properties.

~ I drink Smart & Sassy + Wild Orange essential oils in my water everyday, for metabolic & immune support. Supports healthy energy and lifts mood. Smart & Sassy nutritionally helps the body to break down petrochemicals.

~ Benecos – naturally certified brand. Not tested on animals. Plant oils and waxes make up the bulk of most of their cosmetics. Their products work to hydrate, regulate and regenerate the skin. Light coverage & moisturising.

~ Zuii – certified organic, chemical + cruelty free. Enriched with natural and organic floral ingredients, essential oils, vitamins and minerals.

~ I apply a serum to my face every night, with a carrier
oil, Frankincense, Lavender & Bergamot to help with skin appearance + immunity. The lavender also helps me to sleep restfully.

~ Homemade perfume roller bottle, made with my favourite blend of essential oils. My favourite blend at the mo is Bergamot, Frankincense & Lavender Peace.

~ In tune – essential oil blend applied topically, for when I’m working and studying.

~ Black Chicken deodorant, you must try this! Natural & therapeutic. Cruelty free. Made with shea butter and essential oils. It works people!

There is nothing more satisfying than creating your own beauty products from essential oils! You know exactly what has gone into them – plus, you can tailor the ingredients to suit your skin type and or ailment. This has been one of the most rewarding things for me since embarking on my oily journey.
